After a fire burned down the original cafe, the owners approached hunterOFFICE to redesign a more ambitious, sustainably designed and functional restaurant. Working within the incredibly challenging flood, seismic and geo-technical constraints of the site, an elevated dowel laminated timber structure was designed. The minimalist cedar clad modern kitchen and bar above hovers above the covered picnic seating beneath and nestles into the much loved 100 year old walnut tree. Framed views of Alpha mountain and the river to the North, guided the orientation of the 10′ cantilevered patio.
